The instrument can be used to measure the light scattering and fluorescence parameters of large cell populations on a cell-by-cell basis fast, precisely and reproducibly. The light source is a 488-nm Ar ion laser. Measureable parameters: forward and side scattering, fluorescence intensities of 3 spectrally different dyes. &lt;br /&gt;
With these parameters infromation on the following cellular properties can be gained: expression of intracellular and cell surface proteins (using immunefluorescent labeling); cell viability (calcein-AM, FDA and/or propidium-iodide); intracellular pH (BCECF-AM); membrane potential (oxonol); DNA-content, which can be used to characterize the cells within different phases of the cell cycle; intracellular accumulation of fluorescent substrates of such as those of ABC transporters (e.g. daunorubicin, doxorubicin, calcein, rhodamine 123).&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

In the Electrophysiology Laboratory there are 4 electrophysiological workstations, each capable of cellular electrophysiological (patch clamp) measurements. The method allows the measurement of ionic currents across the cell membrane or a small membrane patch, the transmembrane potential as well as the ion current flowing through a single ion channel. The workstations are mounted on inverted fluorescence microscopes (Nikon, Leitz), equipped with micromanipulators (Eppendorf, Burleigh), electronic microelectrode amplifiers (Axopatch 200A, Multiclamp 700B) and computer controlled data acquisition devices (Axon Digidata 1200 and 1322A analog-digital converters). One of the workstations is combined with a PTI DeltaScan microscopic fluorimeter, which facilitates the determination of the intracellular Ca2+ concentration in individual cells by applying Ca2+ sensitive dyes (e.g. Fura-2) and detection of electrophysiological parameters simultaneously.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

The LSC is a microscope-based instrument alloying advantages of a flow cytometer and a microscope. It is the only instrument of its kind in Hungary. It solves the problem of imaging microscopy: &amp;quot;which few cells to study out of the many different ones&amp;quot;, and provides morphological information on large populations. 3 lasers (405, 488, 633 nm), 5 detectors. Olympus IX71 inverted fluorescence microscope with motorized stage, 10 to 60X objectives, high resolution camera and custom control and analysis software. Data for each cell include coordinates, time of measurement, area, perimeter, total fluorescence, max. pixel intensity, light scatter and further derived parameters. Encompasses techniques from high throughput cellular screening to study of single molecules. 3 flow cytometers, BD FACSDIVA capable of high speed cell sorting. CompuCyte iCys slide based imaging cytometer offers high-throughput, high-content imaging of fluorescence/scatter signals of cell populations. 4 electrophysiology workstations, PTI DeltaScan microfluorimeter with patch clamp for simultaneous Ca2+ and electrophysiology measurements. Olympus, Zeiss confocal microscopes, fluorescence correlation spectroscopes to measure molecular (co)mobility and nanomolar concentrations. TIRF microscope for studying cell surface with single molecule sensitivity and superresolution PALM/STORM. TIRF-FLIM microscope for fluorescence lifetime, FRET studies (molecular interactions). The laboratory is offering a full range of imaging methods, from light- through laser confocal- to high resolutional electron microscopy for morphological and microanalytical characterication of biological samples with an enmphasis on brain tissue. The laboratory includes instruments, hardware and software for sample processing and quantitative image analysis at light- and electron microscopic level.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The neuomorphology Research Lanboratory basically, but not exclusively (since offers services for other research groups ouside the institute and for departments in the local unoversity) in engaged with neurobiology research. The Laboratory is equipped with instruments to support lihóght- and electron micrsocopic investigations (Zeiss, Nikon, Olympus fluorescent light microscopes and Zeiss electron filtering electron micrsocope). Furthermore, the basic sample preparation methods are also supported by equipments like ultramicrotomes (Leica, Reichert), cryostates (Leitz, Slee), freezing microtome (Reichert), vacuum evaporator (Jeol), polymerization owen and knife maker (LKB).&lt;br /&gt;

The RI provides standard image archival method as well as on-line image based evaluation and consultation possibilities for multi-modality medical imaging diagnostic researches and education. Several locale high computing capacity workstations (Teraflop speed) are available for research, development, and education of various image reconstruction procedures for multi-modality (currently human SPECT/CT) applications as well as for the multi-fusion presentation of the SPECT, PET, CT, MR modality (even by simultaneously). &amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Research Infrastructure (RI) serves the multi-modality and multi-dimensional imaging diagnostics with the research and development demands. RI can be used both locally and telemetric way through the provided rights. Main job of the tool is the evaluation and registration of the results of the digitized functional (SPECT, PET) and morphological (X-Ray, CT, MRI, DSA,….etc.) modalities by geographically independent way in order to carry out the on-line image analyzes either prompt or retrospective way by several specialist simultaneously. Due to the digital image sources, RI may play significant role in multi-dimensional and quantitative image based dedicated advisory/reference systems, as well as in medical pattern recognition. RI is very flexible and can be upgraded by easy way due to the structured plug-in technology. Furthermore RI can be the fundament of the future telemetric based multi-dimensional and multi-fusion (3, 4,…and even more modalities fusion) image evaluation system.&lt;br /&gt;

The RI is one of the most important member of the Bioimaging Research Infrastructure Network. The RI is the only member of the Bioimaging Network in which ultrastructural as well as correlative light and electronmicroscopic studies can be carried out. The RI is maintained and operated by a well-trained scientific and technical staff.&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This RI possesses a set of research equipment that enables high resolution imaging, accurate labelling and investigation of cells, subcellular organelles and molecules that play important roles in the structure and function of various organs and tissues. The investigated cells, organelles and molecules can be studied with a wide range of qualitative and quantitative experimental methods.By using the facilities of this RI, the ultrastructure of cells and the extracellular matrix can also be investigated. With the aid of available correlative light and electron microscopic methods, there is a unique opportunity to study the localization of molecules of cells and the extracellular matrix with high resolution and nanometer-accuracy in qualitative and quantitative manners. In addition to a full range of histotechnical eguipments, the RI has a laser scanning confocal microscope, a transmission and a scanning electron microscope, a high preesure freezer and freeze fracture system, a Neurolucida and IMARIS 2D-3D image analysis system.&lt;br /&gt;

The RI possesses a set of research equipments that enables ihigh resolution and accurate labeling and investigation of cells, subcellular organelles and molecules that play important roles in the structure and function of various organs and tissues.
