A transmission and a scanning electron microscope with a full range of necessary smaller equipments are available for use in the MJEML. By using the facilities of the RI, the ultrastructure of cells and the extracellular matrix can be investigated. With the aid of correlative light and electron microscopic methods, there is a unique opportunity in the RI to study the localization of molecules playing crucial roles in the organization and function of cells and the extracellular matrix with high resolution and nanometer-accuracy in qualitative and quantitave manners.
