About the facility

The DP-LSM is a ’conventional’ laser scanning confocal microscope (LSM) equipped with laboratory-built high-frequency differential-polarization (DP) attachments. This set-up allows the rapid and precise pixel-by-pixel determination of physical parameters which are characteristic of the anisotropic molecular architecture of different samples, i.e. parameters derived from DP measurements and from the interaction of the sample with polarized light in general. With the aid of DP-LSM, in addition to the conventional LSM imagings, 2D or 3D maps can be obtained on the birefringence (LB), linear and circular dichroism (LD&CD) of the sample, also, confocally, on fluorescence-detected dichroisms (FDLD&FDCD), as well as the linear and circular polarization contents of the emission (r&CPL), as well as on the degree of polarization of fluorescence emission.
