About the facility

This research infrastructure (RI) plays role int he hungarian bioimaging Network, because two of our modalities are solely installed at our RI in Hungary. From the molecular level through a few up to the 100 micrometer range our imaging modalities are able to detect different materials, minerals, hard tissues of ex vivo samples. We can also collect 3D image dataset at 100 micrometer on living humans. Our primary research project is to quantify micromorphologycal changes of compromized hard tissues. These high quality performed measurements make it possible to complete the Hungarian RI network.

The MicroCT provides high resolution 3D image data of samples without destruction. Its typical applications include: hard tissues, pills, minerals, microfossils, ICs and ex vivo soft tissues filled with contrast media. Its parameters are: X-ray source - 20-100 kV; microfocus - <5 micrometer; X-ray detector -12 bits and there is an 1.3 Mpixel cooled CCD optically coupled to the scintillator. Its maximum sample size is 68 mm length, 37 mm diameter and the smallest voxel size depends on the diameter of the sample (between 2-30 micrometer). It utilises a Feldkamp reconstruction algorithm.
